MONTCEL

The House

Who we are

We are from a family rooted in the lands of Pallars Jussà for several generations, when the population census was still done by fireplaces, which meant houses and families. Montsec has been present in the daily life of my mother, my grandparents and our ancestors. Seeing the sun illuminating, at sunrise and sunset, the entire silhouette of the northern side of the mountain has been and still is the image that the gaze retains permanently. The earth and the sky come together at the top of Montsec, merging the closest with the highest.

In honour of my ancestors and of the land that welcomes us, the name of the rural house that wants to welcome you is Montcel. The union of two inseparable wonders: Montsec and the Sky.

This house is full of history. Built at the beginning of the 17th century by the nobleman Onofre d’Àger i de Luna, then the former rectory of the church of Guàrdia and even earlier, the home of the parents of the 102nd president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Pau d’Àger i d ‘Orcau (1659 -1662) commander of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.

Nature and medieval essence

Rural house Montcel is located in the village of Guardia de Noguera (Pallars Jussà), a medieval village born beneath Guardia Castle, which crowned the mountain range and guaranteed visual control all the way from Tremp to the gorge of Terradets. This offers absolutely unique views.

The village was built in the late Middle Ages as a closed village protected by walls. Three of the original four access portals are still in place today. Flanked by quasi-palaces majestic houses and surrounded by stone pavements, right next to the Santa Maria church, is located the Montcel rural house. The old vicarage, built in 1609, has been completely refurbished and is modernly equipped to offer the highest level of comfort and make you feel at home.

A rural house with medieval essence, designed to enjoy silence and nature.
