MONTCEL

Environment

Montcel is located in the lower part of Pallars Jussà, a pre-Pyrenees region full of places with an immense natural wealth and covering a large part of the Noguera Pallaresa river basin. This is an area offering a huge diversity of water sports, ranging from more relaxing stand-up paddling or canoeing to kayaking, or even rafting for the bravest! The quiet fresh water beaches by the reservoirs of Sant Antoni and Terradets have plenty to offer.

The mountain range of Montsec was declared Starlight reserve for its unique astrological observation conditions that can be fully enjoyed at the Astronomic Parc of Montsec. There you may also find the spectacular gorges of Mont-rebei, with one side in Catalonia and the other in Aragon, and Terradets. Their undeniable ecological value is not only thanks to their wild fauna that is home to highlighting birds of prey, but also to the incomparable beauty of its scenic views. Thanks to its unique walls and caves like “la Colomera”, the area attracts climbers and speleologists from all over the world.

The Terradets gorge is the perfect spot to practice all kinds of activities like climbing, speleology, horse-riding, water sports and paragliding in a beautiful setting.

The area is full of cycling routes and paths to walk, explor, hike and discover new places with incredible history, like the Castle of Mur or the collegiate church of Santa Maria de Mur (dating from the 10th century). Spaces where archaeology and geology, and even dinosaur’s legacy, are the real protagonists. This is the region where life is still deeply connected to the land and its cycles, where agriculture and farming are central and time stops.

We invite you to enjoy outdoor activities all year round, family-oriented sightseeing and culture visits, local gastronomy, regional history and definitely “Geoparc Origens”, a UNESCO-recognised site since 2018.

A region containing big part of the Noguera Pallaresa river basin, and enjoying an immense natural wealth.
